Would you prefer to depreciate your office building over 20 years instead of the required 39 years? At W&G, we can segregate the cost of the tangible personal property, site improvements and building, assigning five or seven-year lives to the tangible personal property, 15-year lives to the site improvements, and 39-year lives to the structure. The result typically is an effective depreciable life of about 20 to 25 years, depending on the type of construction. Robert Livermore of our firm handles the engineering aspect of this work.
